Explorations in Textiles (12:30-1:30pm)

Explorations in Textiles is a hands-on workshop for middle school to teen agedkids interested in fabric, fashion, and fiber art. Participants will experiment with surface design, dyeing, sewing, and visible mending while exploring both creative and sustainable approaches to clothing and textiles.

Each session introduces a new technique, with plenty of time for play, practice, and personalization. Participants are welcome to bring their own garments or fabric to transform, or use materials provided in the studio.

Weekly topics and projects

  • Natural and synthetic dyes on natural fabrics
  • Resist and shibori techniques to add pattern and texture
  • Machine and/or hand sewing and embroidery techniques
  • Visible mending of clothing
  • Upcycling and repurposing garments into new pieces
