Explore the art of anime and manga while developing your own drawing style!
In this 7-week class, students will learn drawing techniques used in anime and manga and discover how artists use line, proportion, expression, movement, and storytelling to bring characters to life.
Students will explore character design from the ground up, including faces and facial expressions, hairstyles, figures and poses, clothing, action and movement, and the visual details that give a character personality. We’ll also look at how manga artists use composition, backgrounds, perspective, and panels to tell a story.
Rather than simply copying existing characters, students will use what they learn to develop characters and drawings of their own. Each week combines demonstrations, drawing exercises, and time to experiment and create.
Whether students already fill their sketchbooks with anime characters or are completely new to the style, this class will help them strengthen their drawing skills and develop their own ideas.
