Discover just how much you can do with a colored pencil!
Colored pencils can do much more than simply fill in a drawing. In this 7-week class, young artists will learn how to use colored pencils to draw, blend, shade, layer colors, create textures, and add depth to their artwork.
Each week introduces a new technique or drawing challenge. Students will experiment with light and shadow, color mixing, gradients, patterns, textures, and layering while creating original drawings inspired by animals, objects, nature, imaginative subjects, and more.
Students will also explore the basics of color theory and discover how artists choose colors that work together, create contrast, establish a mood, or make part of an image stand out.
Along the way, we'll practice looking closely at subjects and breaking complicated images into simpler shapes. Students will learn how pressure, direction of marks, and multiple layers of color can completely change the appearance of a drawing.
The emphasis is on developing skills while giving each student room to make their own artistic choices. Students will leave with a collection of finished drawings and new techniques they can continue using in their own sketchbooks and artwork.
